DAWN still calling for justice for Siam Lee

The DA Women’s Network (DAWN) notes the magistrate’s decision to postpone the bail application of Siam Lee’s alleged murderer, Philani Ntuli, at the Durban Magistrate Court to the 21st of June 2018. The DA welcomes the decision by the court to deny the accused Philani Ntuli bail.

Ntuli is facing multiple charges including murder, kidnapping, contravening the firearms control act, fraud, defeating the end of justice and reckless and negligent driving. It is alleged that Lee disappeared from her North Durban residence on January 4, 2018. After an outcry for help in finding her, her body was discovered 48 hours later in New Hanover sugarfield.

The DA has been horrified by the behavior of the accused who undermines the prosecutor every chance he gets and even utters words to belittle the prosecutor because of her gender. We have also learnt that the accused is kept at Westville prison in protective custody but it is our view that there is no harm or threat against the accused which can justify a special treatment. He must be not be unlawfully segregated from the general prison population because of his special ties and connections.

The DA will continue to work tirelessly to make sure that justice is served for Lee and many other women who are massacred in the hands of men who don’t value the lives of women.
